7 Ways to Efficiently Trade Your Time for Money

February 18, 20235 min read

Traditionally, as pelvic health therapists, we are trading our time for money. Usually, this means that we are treating one patient an hour, every 30 minutes, or every 15 minutes for some models. What does it really mean to trade your time for money? So, you do a task, the patient then gives you money for that service. That’s called trading time for money. What many pelvic health therapists are now realizing is that there are different ways to go beyond one-to-one therapy.

You can impact more than one person in an hour. The more people that you impact, the more your messaging gets out there. The more you can solve bigger problems, the more you can help more and more people.

Hire More People

Why do we get into healthcare? To help people. Okay, so traditionally, in these brick-and-mortar practices, you are treating seven to eight patients a day. There’s nothing wrong with that, but many people these days are like: How can I do more? What more can I do without having to trade all of my time in my eight-hour day? The answer is that you need to hire.

After you hire more staff, you can focus on other tasks. At my practice, I stopped treating one-on-one patients. Now, I have time to think about marketing or even put on a workshop. My role in my practice is to be a visionary. I’m the one that comes up with all the ideas of how things should move forward, and then my staff and I collectively talk about them. If I didn’t pull myself out of patient care, I would not have time to be a visionary.

You must hire. Because once you hire, then other people can do these tasks, which I call implementation tasks. These are the type of tasks that you can teach anyone how to do. Once you give them your plan, then they just have to follow it.

Sell Products From Other Companies

You can sell products. You can get anywhere between 5K a year to 30K a year. Yes, you need to buy the products up front, and all that kind of stuff. The best part about selling products is that it is a different revenue stream that does not involve you giving more of yourself.

Here’s an example: think of the company, Intimate Rose. She sells the wands and dilators. She’s creating a product. Think about how many of us pelvic health therapists then go out and promote that to our patients. Now, think about how many people are impacted by that one wand. That one wand. Those wands are impacting millions of people’s lives because the physical therapist gets it, or the occupational therapist gets it, and then gives them to the patient. The patient gets it, uses it, and then tells other people that about that one product. Now, is more of Amanda’s time being taken up because lots of people are using her product? No. She created a product, and she’s letting that product basically sell itself to all, to a bigger audience. All she had to do was create one product, and that’s very important.

Memberships & Subscription Services

You can also do a subscription or membership service.

For example, you can have a membership. After the patients no longer need treatment, you could have them use a subscription service. They can continue on to have access to all these different products online.

Create Your Own Products

Another way is to create products, instead of just selling them. It doesn’t have to be fancy dilators. You could sell cool t-shirts with slogans on them. You could sell a book, body candles, or even pastries. Think outside of the box about different products that you can sell.

Workshops

Most pelvic health therapists who own cash-based businesses charge around $200 an hour. So, they treat a patient, and get $200. Then they treat another patient and get $200. After a full day of work, they might have about $1,000. However, if these therapists had done workshops, they would have a different outcome.

Let’s say I do a one-hour workshop. For that workshop, I charge between 300 and $400. I would just need four people to join my workshop to make the same amount of money, and it would only take one hour of my time instead of eight hours of my time on a normal day. I’m just using my one hour to spread massive impact.

Podcasting

Podcasting is another way to reach more people. I sit down for about an hour and make a podcast, and then this gets broadcasted out to hundreds of people. I can create more of an impact, and it doesn’t take all my time to get on hundreds of coaching calls with people trying to tell them how to do certain things. The podcast speaks for itself, and it can provide people with massive value.

Social Media

You can also reach people on social media. That’s one-to-many. I recommend collaborating with other people to help spread your message on social media. Be consistent and post every single day.

You now post something on social media and then that post goes out online, where many people are getting your message and understand where you’re coming from.

Follow these tips to impact many people and watch your pelvic health business grow.
